Não há reconcialiação sem justiça

Posted by LIA HAROMAN at 7/21/2006 10:32:04 AM:

George Speight, a disgraced Fijian businessman, launched a coup against Fiji's Labour-led government a few years ago. Speight used nationalist and ethnic rhethoric to justify his actions. The Labour government was headed by a Hindu-Fijian, Mahendra Chaudhry. Immediately after the coup, Speight was paraded by the Australian media as a hero. Today Speight is spending his time behind bars. Truth and justice prevailed in Fiji.

In Timor-Leste, truth and justice must prevail and they will.

No reconciliation without justice.

Fiji suffered a military coup a few years before George Speight did. The coup leader was Sitiveni Rambucca. Rambucca was never brought to justice and he even went on to become Fiji's president at one stage. A kind of reconciliation was held instead of justice. So... George Speight launched his own coup as well.

This is what happens when justice is not fulfilled. This is what happens when people glorify coup leaders.

Let's hope East Timor doesn't follow the path of Fiji.

yes. there are a lot of lessons that East Timor can draw from the Fijian experience.

was the coup in Timor-Leste racially motivated? was the fact that Mari Alkatiri being of Arabic descent and a muslim played a role the coup? I think George Speight justified the Fiji coup as a way of stopping Indian Fijians from having too much economic and political power (ethnic Indians make up nearly 50% of Fiji's population). I don't ofcourse condone such thing. Everyone should enjoy the same right in any place on this earth.

Was Mahendra Chaudhry a popular leader in Fiji?

I think Fiji diferent from Timor Lorosae. Timor Lorosae is catolic country 100% and not like comunist to rule our country. Alkatiri is comunist learning in Mosambik and wants to implant comunist goverment in Timor Lorosae. Timor Lorosae people's not want comunism or islam to rule becaus we in danger become muslim and terorism and osama bin laden to rule our country. stop teling East Timor like Fiji or Palestina or Papua Barat.

I am an East Timorese Catholic too, but I do not agree with those who believe that East Timorese Prime Ministers, Ninisters or whatever should be Catholics. To me religion has nothing to do with being elected as Prime Minister or President of the Republic.

I have studied and read a lot about Communism and Marxism-Leninism and I personally know Dr Mari Alkatiri who is not a Communist or Marxist-Leninist.

Mari was an excellent negotiator on East Timor Oil and Gas.

You need to better understand what terrorism and communism is. Do you even know what they mean? People who understand what these terms mean know that Communism and Terrorism, as those terms are understood today, are two different ideas and I cannot see how one person could possibly be both a communist and a terrorist. Read a book and expand your knowledge. You are absolutely intolerant. No wonder Timor is experiencing the problems it is experiencing, especially if there are more Timorese who think the way you do.

I agree that Mari is a great negotiator on East Timor Oils and Gas in East Timor. I like it very much and I'm 100% support this attitude. I like also the way he shows to others countries that we are Independent and no one can "manage" us as they want. It's brilliant!
It is sad that Mari have never obey the Unidade nacional agreement that he signed in the name of the Party, it is not a good attitude. It’s sad also how he treated the gov. employers from other parties, for example: those who belongs to Fretelin can use the vehicles, fuels and working hours for campaign but those who are not Fretelin members which is not using vehicles, fuels and working hours, he fired them all just because they attempt a campaign from other party.
The procurement office is the major corrupt office in is Timor beside other departments. He has done nothing (maybe)in 4 years to stop it, even people have report it.
Last thing, it seems that Mari knows about Railos group after he has been informed by Policia Paulo. To create Militia (which for me as same thing as rebels) is a poor attitude conduct by Rogerio and maybe Mari was involve and could be as the plan maker (No one knows the fact until the court process is finish)

One thing that I would like to comment is that, those who are pro-Xanana, many people, I guess, including BE in Portugal, they assuming that the pro-Xanana Group are pro-Australia. This is wrong! You see how people react or support the Portuguese team on the copa mundial, event thought Portuguese only got in rank 4, and they still keep calling for “Portugal” name in the street at 4:00 am on that they Portugal lost the game. What they don’t like is the crimes committed by the gov. leaders! Why? It just a simple question that they ask, why we can be sentence to prison and the leaders is not? This make than compare with Indonesia were these Indonesian guys (gov. leaders) are free for any corrupt, violation or etc and the Timorese are sentence to prison. Why they think like that? Because most of them didn’t have the luxury to go to school during Indonesia occupation and they don’t understand about the low either!
